The graphic artist and pedagogue Vladislavs Grishins has died / Diena

Vladislava Grišin’s first contact with visual art took place in the children’s art studio run by the painter Jānis Skuča (1908–1998) in the former Riga Pioneer Palace. Later, Vladislavs Grishins visited the studio of painter and restorer L. Reshotov and worked as a retouching master Meteorological measuring device in the factory.

From 1959 to 1965, Vladislavs Grišins studied at the Graphics Department of the State Academy of Arts of the Latvian SSR, graduating with a diploma thesis Illustrations for Leonid Solovyov’s (1909–1962) short story dilogy The Adventures of Khoja Nasredin in lithography technique.

After his studies at LMA, Vladislavs Grišins worked as an artist-designer in several Riga companies, but in 1975 he started working at the LPSR Art Fund combine Art (MF LMK) in the workshop of decorative art as a printer of graphic works. Later, V. Grishins was a master in the Experimental Print Workshop and from 1976 to 1988 its head, he collegially encouraged artists to work in graphic techniques, ensured the realization of works for LMS members, who at that time created collections of artworks for the planned MF exhibitions in Latvia and everything else. on the territory of the USSR. The workshop was located in the LMS MF building House of Artists (tag. LMS museum on the 11th of November at 35, Riga, rooms 50, 89, etc.). House of Artists was built in 1960 for creative work (arch. Kārlis Plūksna (1906–1973), and it housed the workshops of artists – painters, graphic artists, textile artists, sculptors, as well as the workshops of the MF combined print, weavers, and leather processing workshops. In the print workshop near the etching and at that time, Māris Abiļevs worked on lithography together with his brother Andri Abiļevs and the experienced craftsman Laimoni Lejniek (1916–1989), who supported the introduction of experimental graphic techniques. In 1962, while studying at the LMA, Vladislavs Grišins started teaching at the 32nd and later the 9th secondary school in Riga, from 1988 he started working as a pedagogue at the Faculty of Architecture and Construction of the Riga Polytechnic Institute (RTU, tag: Riga Technical University Faculty of Architecture), Fine Arts in the department, where he worked together with lecturers: spouses, graphic artists Banyut Ancani, Dina Baumani, Juri Pansova, Aleksandra Beznosik, graphic artist, medal artist Inesi Nātriņa, painters Anita Melderi, Silvija Meškoni, etc. the head of the department and his students are currently well-known Latvian architects.

Vladislavs Grishins was a member of the LMS from 1978, he was admitted to the Graphics section of the LMS with the recommendations of the graphic artists Naftolis Gutmans, Aleksander Dembo (1931–1999), Lolitas Zikmanes, Maras Rikmanes and the characterization of the director of the MF LMK Viktor Veishtort (1928 – 2016). The candidacy of USSR MS Vladislav Grishin was approved in 1980.

Vladislav Grishin worked in the House of Artists, in graphic workshop no. 96a until 2011. Participated in the LMS exhibition Art Days (House of Artists in workshop No. 50, 2002) together with graphic artists Dina Ābeli, Māri Subača, Ināra Garklāva, Gunāra Krolli, Banyuta Ancāni, Neli Zirnīti, Artūras Nikitina (1936–2022), Juri Putrāma, etc.

In 2004, Vladislavs Grishins together with Juri Stagis established and for many years (until 2020) managed the Art Studio on the 4th floor of the Architects’ House, together with the artists Banyutas Ancani, Viktoras Ledovskis, Egils Bormanis, leading drawing and painting classes for future architects and art enthusiasts.

When evaluating Vladislav Grishin’s work, several creative periods should be noted, such as the lithography period, which is marked from 1976 to 1979, when the artist worked intensively in the color lithography technique. The next stage was marked around the year 1980, when there was a turn towards the geometrization of the stylistic language, and the third – with the year 1983, when the author worked in the aquatint technique.

Vladislavs Grishins participated in exhibitions from 1965. The artist has participated in the Baltic graphics triennials (1980, 1986 diploma, 1989, 1992), as well as graphics triennials in Varna (Bulgaria, 1995), Prague (Czech Republic, 1998), Šemallier (France, 2006). The artist’s participation in exhibitions should be noted: Latvian graphic art exhibition (LMS Gallery, 1991), II General Latvian Art Exhibition (LNMM, Arsenal, 1998), Graphics Biennale in Breclav (Czech Republic, 2004), Modern Latvian graphics (LNMM, 2010), exhibition of Latvian contemporary graphics (Daugavpils Marka Rothko art center, 2016), exhibition of graphics by Latvian and Lithuanian artists The future of the past (A. Žmuidzinaviča Memorial Museum, Kaunas, Lithuania, 2017) etc

Vladislav Grišin has held solo exhibitions. in the gallery House of Architects (LAS, 1988), Game with geometry (bee. Riga Gallery, 1994), Lithography and etchings 1975-1985 (bee. movie gallery, 1996), Game with geometry. Continuation. (Riga Gallery, 1998), Coast. Aquatints (LNMM, 2007), Oferti un aquatintas (at. gallerya Connective tissue2010).

In 1986, Vladislavs Grishins led a plein air in Limbaži, in which the graphic artists Elza Stalidzāne (1933-2022), Valija Brence (1941-2009), Garijs Manto (1935-2018), Raitis Zvirbulis, Naftolijs Gūtmanis participated.

The works of Vladislav Grišin can be found in the Museum of the Latvian Union of Artists, the Latvian National Art Museum, the Latvian National History Museum, as well as in other museums and private collections.

Farewell to the graphic designer, pedagogue Vladislava Grišina will take place on March 1, 2023 at 15.00, in the Great Hall of the Riga Cremation Center.
