The Grana association organizes the Yolanda Huergo Award for research in Asturian

The Grana association has organized the first edition of the Yolanda Huergo Award for research work, which wants to recognize unpublished works from any section of knowledge and line of study made or translated into Asturian.

The endowment of the prize is 1,500 euros and Grana will promote the publication of the winning work. Papers, with a minimum of 100 pages, must be sent, before July 1, 2023, to the email address [email protected].

YOLANDA HUERGO

Yolanda González Huergo, who was born in Gijn in 1971 and has been an official in the Urban Planning area of ​​Siero since 2004, actively participated in various social movements, such as the defense of the official status of the Asturian language.

He was also a member of Asturianist formations such as the Bloque por Asturies-Unid Nacionalista Asturiana coalition, of which he was number two for the central constituency in the 2011 regional elections.

She was one of the visible faces of the most Asturian wing of Podemos and in 2018 she was chosen as a candidate for the formation in the Gijn City Council. A prominent militant of the Xunta for the Defense of the Asturian Language, the fight for official status was one of her main social commitments. Yolanda Huergo passed away in 2020 at the age of 49 after a long illness.
