For the purposes of applying to higher education, high school graduates or persons with a secondary education diploma have the right to take a one-time, within the academic year of their graduation or the following academic year, to take an exam in the order of the state high school exams in a subject of study , in which they have already successfully passed the state matriculation exam, but are not satisfied with their grade.
This was decided by the parliament with the amendments to the Law on preschool and school education, introduced by Krasimir Valchev from GERB-SDS and a group of people’s representatives, adopted in the second reading.
The result of the exam does not change that of the matriculation exam in the secondary education diploma and is reflected in a certificate of passing the exam in the order of the state matriculation exams for the purposes of applying to higher education.
When applying to a university, the certificate gives the right to include the grade from the state exam with the weight of or instead of the grade from the state matriculation exam from the secondary education diploma in cases where it is more favorable for the person in the ballroom education or for admission to a higher education institution.
A stamp with an image of the state coat of arms is also placed on a certificate of passing an exam under the order of the state matriculation exams for the purposes of applying to a higher education institution, the parliament adopted.
According to the current law, schools, with the exception of primary, private and religious schools, have such a seal.
The entrance to the higher education system should be open, but the system should not be so permeable, commented Krasimir Valchev.
Ivaylo Papov from the PG of “Vazrazhdane” expressed concern that the possibility of changing the grade from the matriculation could open “Pandora’s box” in education. Tomorrow, people may ask for a change in the assessment from the national external assessment after the 7th grade, he explained.
