The Governor of West Sumatra Asks the Benchmark of the Red Value of Jokowi’s Report Card

Padang, CNN Indonesia

Governor of West Sumatra, Mahyeldi admits that he doesn’t care about the red report card from the President Joko Widodo regarding the handling of the corona virusCovid-19). Mahyeldi admitted that he had tried his best and had good results.

“I think it’s a matter of grades and a red report card, so go ahead, because we already have a local regulation. What is a red score? We’ve done a lot of things, have we measured that?” Mahyeldi said to CNNIndonesia.com at the West Sumatra Governor’s Office, Monday (9/8).

Mahyeldi explained that the West Sumatra Provincial Government had implemented a strategy to deal with Covid-19 in accordance with Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2020 concerning Adaptation to New Habits (IMR).

For example, making improvements to handling upstream and downstream. The provincial government has also increased the number of available beds in hospitals, is collaborating with district and city governments, conducting more testing and tracing than ever before.

“It can be seen (the results) that at the beginning, four districts and cities underwent emergency PPKM, now there is only one city, namely Padang City. Have you seen that? What is clear is that we have made improvements,” Mahyeldi explained.

Mahyeldi then touched on the international assessment of the Indonesian government in tackling Covid-19. According to him, the international community assesses that Indonesia is still not optimal, while the government has done its best.

He said it was the same when the central government gave a red report card to the West Sumatra Provincial Government, which had been working hard.

“Internationally, in the last few weeks Indonesia has also been considered not optimal in dealing with Covid-19, even though what the government has done is working hard to handle it in a better way,” he said.

Mahyeldi responded casually to the red report card given by the central government. He admitted that he just wanted to do his best so that the Covid-19 in his area could be controlled.

“Whatever it is, we must focus on improving and giving the best,” Mahyeldi continued.
