The amount of the thirteenth monthly pension is the same as the amount of the social security pension benefits entitled to the thirteenth monthly pension paid for at least one day of the year preceding the current year to the entitled person for the month of February. The thirteenth monthly pension is paid by the pension disbursing body in February of the current year, ex officio, without a separate decision.
According to Farkas, the amendment proposal does not mean that the eligibility for the 13th month pension is no longer conditional on the person concerned being retired on at least one day of the previous year, but only that the person concerned must be retired in February as well. The reason for this is that from January 1, 2025, the 13th monthly pension will always be paid in February of the given year.
According to the expert, on the other hand, those pensioners who died in January of the current year and thus only receive their pension until January 31, are no longer entitled to the 13th monthly pension of the current year, so their relative living with them or (in the absence of such a relative) their heir nor can you request the payment of the 13th monthly pension.
According to the currently effective regulations, the spouse, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent and sibling who lived in the same household as the pensioner who died in January, in that order, could request the 13th monthly pension of the pensioner who died in January within one year from the date of death. From 2025, only the relatives or heirs of pensioners who died in February of the current year can request payment of the 13th monthly pension, if it has not already been done. The 13th monthly pension will be paid in February from now on.
