He met with Michel Barnier at length, trying to change the direction of the 2025 Finance Bill which will cause an “untenable” situation for the finances of departmental communities. A choice all the more incomprehensible for François Sauvadet, president (UDI-Côte-d’Or) of Departments of France, as he has been warning “for many months” about the “extremely rapid deterioration” of the budgetary situation of the 103 departments French.
What effort is the government asking you to make to straighten out the public accounts?
I said to the Prime Minister, “We are aware that we need to make things happen but we cannot bear 40% of the 5 billion euros requested from communities alone”.
What is incomprehensible is that Michel Barnier said that we had to preserve the most precarious. Precisely, we are the ones who are on the front line with child protection, home care for the elderly, integration, and the world of disabilities. And these social expenditures have exploded. They now represent 70% of our total expenses.
What budgetary levers could you activate to compensate for this drain?
