The government wants to raise the mortgage ceiling and reduce interest deductions – Altinget

The government tasks the Financial Supervisory Authority with reviewing an increase in the mortgage ceiling from today’s 85 percent to 90 percent. The aim is to reduce households’ unsecured loans and the risk of over-indebtedness.

– Since the mortgage ceiling was introduced, more people are borrowing via unsecured loans. This has meant that we now have a doubling of households’ unsecured loans, says Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson in connection with the government’s press conference.

The mortgage ceiling means that the borrower must cover 15 percent of the purchase through own savings or unsecured loans, and the government decides at the same time to abolish the interest deduction for unsecured loans, that is, for example, just unsecured loans and consumer loans.
