The government is starting a campaign today to make people healthier. The aim of the “Fit in your way” campaign is to let people figure out for themselves which tips suit them best. The hope is that people will eat healthier, exercise more and relax better.
According to the outgoing State Secretary Blokhuis, there is so much advice that it sometimes seems to people that they have to change their whole lives. This is often a reason to postpone an adjustment for a while. The new campaign must break through that and make it clear that small steps are also worthwhile.
“One person wants to go to work skateboarding from now on, the other goes for a walk with the neighbor or from now on cooks with more vegetables,” says Blokhuis. He emphasizes that the corona crisis makes even more visible the importance of a healthy lifestyle. According to experts, small changes can have a positive effect on resistance within a few weeks.
The campaign consists of television and radio spots and the website fitopjouwmanier.nl, with a so-called tip generator.
‘Tighten agreements’
The campaign will start on the day which has become known that agreements between the government and the food industry to reduce the amount of sugar and salt in food had only limited effect.
“More could have been achieved if agreements had been made for more products. Or if the amount of salt and sugar in the products had been further reduced,” the RIVM said. The organization advocates tightening up the agreements with the food industry.
