The government wants to avoid strikes in the oil sector

Libreville, Wednesday December 6, 2023 (Infos Gabon) – Under the aegis of the Minister of Oil and that of Labor and the Fight against Unemployment, negotiations opened this Wednesday between trade unionists and leaders of oil companies whose employees brandished the threat of strike.

Far from folklore, members of the government intend to call on social partners, notably the national organization of oil employees (ONEP), to resolve the problems posed by employees of oil companies.

Thus, in the presence of the Secretary General of ONEP, Sylvain Mayabinet, a series of meetings is organized this Wednesday, December 6 at the Ministry of Oil between the managers and staff delegates of the companies Assala Gabon, Addax Petroleum Oil and Gas Gabon (APOGG ), as well as Maurel and Prom.

Marcel Abeke, Minister of Oil and Solange Nguiakie, Minister of Labor and the Fight against Unemployment have been leading the negotiations since this afternoon with the aim of streamlining social relations and calming the tense social climate between the different parties in conflict. Assala Gabon having sold its assets to Morel and Prom, employees are demanding the good separation bonus.

Through this important consultation, the government has just suppressed a strike which was to paralyze the oil sector. Given that oil employees had threatened an indefinite general strike starting December 4, 2023.
