Insurance for motorcycles and tricycles: “The government thinks it’s highly social,” says Wilfried Houngbédji
Asked by the editorial staff of Frissons Radio this Friday, June 18, the Deputy Secretary General and Government Spokesperson, Wilfried Léandre Houngbédji gave clarifications about the bill on the obligation to take out insurance for any user of land vehicle motor (VTM). During this interview, he said that this bill is part of the Head of State’s vision to do more social during his second five-year term. “First, the government thinks it’s highly social,” the government spokesperson said. Addressing the reasons for this reform, he said that it aims to protect motorcyclists who are the most exposed victims in road accidents. “When accidents happen, motorcycle riders are usually the biggest victims. Those in the car are even better protected, ”he said. Continuing his explanations, the guest of Frissons Radio demonstrated that this tax will solve enough problems and that it would be fixed perhaps at 10,000 f cfa or 15,000 f cfa per year, or 1000 fcfa per month. According to the spokesperson for the Executive, very often the victims do not have the means to deal with the damage caused by the accidents of which they are at the origin. Thus, once the law is passed, their motorcycles would be insured and this would allow them to better manage and without pressure, the situation in the event of an accident.
