The Minister of the Presidency, Gustavo Montalvo, said that the person who threw the tear bomb against protesters in the Plaza de la Bandera, did so individually.
He said that the Government has always respected the right to peaceful protest of citizens.
“What happened today, unfortunately, was an individual initiative, not ordered by the authorities. The person in charge will be investigated and sanctioned by our security force, ”Montalvo said in a message posted on his twitter account.
While the administrative minister of the Presidency, José Ramón Peralta, said that the right to protest peacefully is protected by the Constitution and that the government has always respected it.
“Although we know that what happened today is an isolated and unauthorized event, we categorically condemn any aggression against the population,” he said.
According to the statements of the Minister of Defense, Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, the action was committed by a military, without proper authorization, so they will be investigated in this regard. The defendant’s name has not been disclosed.
