The Government ordered prohibit from today until December 31, 2023 the export of seven cuts of beef with the purpose of stopping the rise in product prices in the domestic market that have a strong impact on the consumer price index.
Through Decree 911 published in the Official Gazette, which bears the signature of President Alberto Fernández, the Chief of Cabinet, Juan Manzur, and the Minister of Agriculture, Julián Domínguez, it is established that it cannot be exported Roast with or without bone, skirt, matambre, top of roast, buttock, shoulder, and vacuum. He calls these cuts “Preferred Cuts”, in the fresh, chilled or frozen mode.
According to the foundations of the standard, which advanced THE NATION In the past week, “The measures that are available contribute to generating a balance between the Argentine market and the export of meat products.”
In turn, the decree considers that “It is necessary to build a public policy for the meat chain in order to increase production, livestock stock and average slaughter weight, generating predictability for the producer, and also increase exportable volumes”.
In addition, through two resolutions published in the same edition of the Official Gazette, 301 and 302, the Ministry of Agriculture frees exports of cuts from cow categories D and E – called manufacturing -, among other measures, and creates an Observatory of Production of the Beef Meat that will be chaired by Domínguez and integrated by representatives of the provincial governments, the production entities and the industry, among others.
The decree and the resolutions known today constitute the last step of the trap for meat exports that the Government began to apply last May to curb increases in the price of meat in the domestic market. First, it established a total prohibition, with the exception of the quotas assigned to the country in other destinations, and then established a quota for exports of 50% with respect to what was sold abroad in 2020. Later, the restrictions were made more flexible, especially the cuts of the categories of cows D and E that are mainly destined for China, the main export market of Argentina.
The stocks did not meet its objective because the price of the meat did not fall, according to the specialists of the business. On the contrary, last November it had average increases of 9 percent.
The measures known today had been advanced by Julián Domínguez to technicians from rural and industrial refrigeration entities last week. Before, the minister himself had reported that after the December 31 deadline established for the previous restrictions, the stocks would be made more flexible.
