The Labor Party, the Socialist People’s Party and the Socialist People’s Party in the Storting ask the government to come up with “possible measures” that can ease the burden of sky-high electricity bills. Daffe stuff, the opposition believes.
–
– With this proposal, we park all unrest whether there will be measures or not. Now we decide that something will happen, says SV leader Audun Lysbakken.
– We state that there is a majority in the Storting that wants measures as a means, and it is thus an obligation, he states.
Prevents majority
The three budget comrades met with NTB on Thursday ahead of the budget debate in the Storting to inform about the proposal, which they agreed on late Wednesday night.
The proposal prevents a majority for a number of other proposals from the opposition on various electricity measures, which the Storting will also vote on Thursday.
– It is important that we take action and that the government starts working on this. But wise assessments must be made to get a system that works well, says Ap’s parliamentary leader Rigmor Aasrud.
– With the proposal that is now being adopted, we are giving the government some time to assess which groups it is most important to initiate measures for, who needs it most right now. I think we should take that opportunity, adds Sps’ parliamentary leader Marit Arnstad.
Sharp reactions
However, the three will not go into what measures they envisage.
In the proposal, they kick the ball over to the government, which is asked to “especially look at measures that can alleviate groups that are hit particularly hard by extraordinarily high electricity prices”.
SV said on Wednesday that they envisage a scheme with a cash payment that is given to individuals and families who are struggling with the electricity bill.
Minister of Petroleum and Energy Marte Mjøs Persen (Labor Party) will already be in the process of assessing which measures can be implemented.
– Daffe greier
In the Storting, the proposal is met with sharp reactions from the opposition, where several point out that the state is now raking in revenues due to sky-high electricity prices.
– This is pure paralysis of action, rages the Liberal Party’s Sveinung Rotevatn The online newspaper.
– This is incredibly cool stuff. The only thing the Labor Party, the Socialist People’s Party and the Socialist People’s Party have agreed on is to ask the Storting to come back with possible measures. They do not put anything concrete on the table, says MDGs Rasmus Hansson to NTB.
– At the same time, they block too many good proposals from the opposition that could have helped people with the electricity bill immediately, he states.
MDG has proposed a cash payment of NOK 7,500 for a family of four to remedy the electricity price.
– A little incredible
Nor does Conservative Tina Bru be reassured.
– People walk around with a lump in their stomach and wait for the November bill. The Conservatives presented several concrete measures yesterday, where a family of four receives 3,000 kroner, and the students receive 1,000 kroner extra in scholarships. This is entirely possible to achieve quickly, it is about political will, she states.
Frps Sylvi Listhaug is even sharper.
– This is unbelievable. We have now been discussing high electricity prices for a long time. But instead of going in for some of the many proposals we have put forward, the government parties and SV should have another round of discussion and dialogue, she says.
– We do not have time for that. In the next few weeks, more people will receive new shock bills from the electricity companies. They need help now. Therefore, we will pay 4,000 kroner in electricity support to all households at once, says the FRP leader.
Shoots towards the SW
Rødt’s Sofie Marhaug, who sits on the energy and environment committee, directs the shot especially at SV.
– The government has ever since they took office said that they will look into the matter, without delivering solutions that are close to remedying the situation. Now action is needed, but SV chooses to block the possibility of actually making sure that people get money to pay the electricity bill, she says.
Rødt believes that the state’s increased income as a result of high electricity prices should be paid directly to households as an immediate measure. In addition, the party wants the planned increases in electricity taxes coming on 1 January to be stopped.
