The Government of El Salvador launches a digital certificate of anticovid vaccination

More than 2.6 million Salvadorans, 47.7% of the target population, completed the two-dose vaccination scheme against covid-19, according to official information updated this Saturday.

The government site covid19.gob.sv, with data updated until August 27, indicates that 2,625,944 are the second doses inoculated in the Central American country, which has around 6.7 million inhabitants and whose target population to be immunized is of 5.5 million.

It is also indicated that the first doses applied amount to 3,478,958 to total 6,104,902 doses given since last February 17, when the vaccination process began in this country.

The Central American country inoculates doses from Moderna, Sinovac laboratories -with which the country has the most doses with 4,150,000 million vaccines-, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm.

The total number of infections is 94,060 and the death toll rose to 2,890 with the report of 10 more deaths on Friday, according to official data.

The Central American country, in which 3 variants of “concern” of the virus are already circulating, registers a rise in daily infections since last June, a situation that some local media have classified as a third wave, without this having been confirmed by the authorities of Health.

However, Alabí pointed out on Wednesday that “in the last two weeks” they have observed “a trend with a decrease in confirmed cases per day.”

Health personnel are vaccinating citizens over 12 years of age and from February 17 to date, front-line health workers, teachers, police, military, firefighters, Civil Protection personnel and journalists have been vaccinated.

El Salvador has received 10,722,480 million of various coronavirus vaccine formulas through purchases, donations and the Covax system of the World Health Organization (WHO), of which 56.9% have applied.
