The government is considering further measures. Minister Vojtěch does not rule out the closure of schools

Another measure could come next week due to the growing number of infected. The rules for mass events are likely to be tightened even more. “Restrictions are in place, but the actions may be completely banned. It’s the most common risk,” Prymula said.

According to the Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES), for example, sports matches could take place in front of empty stands. “This is a measure that is at stake. Alternatively, it could also apply to other mass events for people who stand, shout, sing. These are the most risky places,” he explains. “We will have to overtake the virus in those measures so that it does not spread. Some measures would be preventive,” Prymula added.

However, according to the chief hygienist Jarmila Rážová, the general closure of schools should not come before it is limited to mass events. “I cannot rule out such a measure, but I don’t think it should be the first one we should introduce. You know that we have given the obligation to cover the classrooms. Even from that, we promise that the number of infected people could be reduced,” said Vojtech.

The government should activate the Central Crisis Staff on Monday and also discuss the possibility of introducing a state of emergency. According to Prymula, it is in place. However, the Minister of Health, the Minister of the Interior and the head of the opposition ODS are still against it.

“In the foreseeable future, I do not see a reason for an emergency. If the situation worsens, then the discussion would be on the table,” said Interior Minister Jan Hamáček (CSSD). “I don’t see a reason yet. Let the ministry do what it has to do, let the crisis staff be activated,” ODS chairman Petr Fiala added.

According to experts, the capacity of intensive care backup beds in Prague is 15 percent. It may be exhausted at the end of next week. In this case, other non-venous care could be restricted.
