The government has set aside 68 troops to help fight coronavirus

“At today’s meeting, the government approved a regulation allowing the deployment of troops outside the state of emergency. They will help the Ministry of Health and regional hygiene stations. Without it, it would not be possible to deploy troops, “said Metnar at Straka’s Academy on Monday.

In total, up to 68 soldiers can be deployed. “Twenty-eight of them will be specialists within the sampling teams. There will also be 30 medics and 10 specialists within the operations command, “the minister specified.

Soldiers could participate in the testing in the outbreaks of the epidemic, for example in the Karviná region or in the Novojičín region. The Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, Ivo Vondrák, asked the government to deploy the army in the area testing of OKD employees. He said that 6,000 OKD employees could not be tested without the help of the army.

According to Metnar, the army will send 5 sampling teams to the Moravian-Silesian Region on July 19. They will be involved in comprehensive testing of OKD employees.

Soldiers have previously assisted hygienists and the Ministry of Health in the epidemiological investigation, and also set up mobile sampling teams. They also took part in border guards or the distribution of material, for example. According to the Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES), the army’s mobile teams finished testing people about two weeks ago.

“The army has once again shown in recent months that it is ready to help where it is needed, and will continue to do so in the future,” Metnar added.
