The Minister of Mines, Hervé Patrick Opiangah, presented, this Monday, January 9, 2024, to the Managing Director (ADG) of the Reminac company, Mr. Joe Ariti, the presidential decree which will allow his company to produce the iron ore on the Baniaka site.
The Baniaka project concerns an iron deposit located in Haut-Ogooué, approximately 70 km south of Franceville. The Reminac company will produce for the next 20 years. To this end, the operationalization phase will take place during the second quarter of 2025, with a production of three million tonnes/year, which should gradually increase to five, then ten million tonnes.
The company had already carried out 48,000 m of drilling, a social and environmental impact study as well as all exploitation feasibility studies. The initial investment for the launch of the project is 250 million dollars, or nearly 125 billion CFA francs. Let’s learn. Through this project, Reminac plans to create 500 to 700 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs.
Note that the REMINAC company, a subsidiary of the Genmin group, undertakes, moreover, to build the road which will allow the transport of the ore to the railway, with a view to its evacuation. Then, will follow the installation of the electrical line which will supply the site, from the Poubara dam. To this will be added the preparation of the places to accommodate the infrastructures, as well as the first deposits.
