The Council of Ministers has agreed, at its meeting this Tuesday, to extend the exceptional measures previously agreed to limit the spread and contagion by Covid-19, by limiting direct flights between the United Kingdom, the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa and Spanish airports.
In the case of the United Kingdom, only flights to Spain that are occupied by Spanish or Andorran citizens may be made, as well as residents in both countries. The measure will take effect from 6:00 p.m. on February 16 (peninsular time) until 6:00 p.m. on March 2, 2021 (peninsular time).
From the Federative Republic of Brazil and the Republic of South Africa, only flights to Spain that are occupied by Spanish or Andorran citizens may be made, as well as residents in both countries or passengers in international transit to a non-Schengen country with a stopover of less than 24 hours without leaving the transit area of the Spanish airport. The extension of the restrictions on flights from Brazil and South Africa will take effect from 9:00 a.m. on February 17, 2021 (Peninsular time) until 6:00 p.m. on March 2, 2021 (Peninsular time).
These restrictions they do not affect the necessary aeronautical personnel to carry out air transport activities. Exemptions are contemplated for air transport, search and rescue services (SAR), flights with a stopover in Spanish territory for non-commercial purposes and whose final destination is another country, exclusive cargo flights, and humanitarian, medical or emergency flights.
The agreement is part of the determined action of the Government to protect the health and safety of citizens, contain the progression of the disease and strengthen health and social health systems, and in line with the recommendations in the field of European coordination.
Additionally, they are in line with the objective established by the Emergency Committee of the World Health Organization and by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control of interrupting the spread of the virus, taking firm measures to detect the disease early, isolate and treat cases, follow up on contacts, and promote social distancing measures commensurate with risk.
