Cases of monkeypox have spread throughout Spain and Europe. In Spain have detected more than 50 cases and the World Health Organization (WHO) indicates that there are more than 130 cases, a third of them in Spain.

In Spain and in the rest of the world vaccination was stopped after 1980since smallpox was then eradicated thanks to vaccines and it was a virus that no longer circulated.

For now, the Government rules out smallpox vaccination for those under 40 who are not previously vaccinated, as announced by the minister spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez.

He added that as a consequence of the health crisis derived from the covid-19 pandemic, “All the warning mechanisms have been fine-tuned and, therefore, what is verified with these cases is that they are effectively working and we have information on cases in real time”.

change the trend
