/ world today news/ “The Cabinet does not make reforms, it only talks about them”. This was stated by the chairman of the BSP, Mikhail Mikov, in the studio of “This Morning” on bTV.
He gave examples from the social sphere, noting that the mechanical increase of the retirement age and seniority is labeled as a pension reform and warned that in this situation, in a few years, there may be talk of their increase again. At the same time, the “reform” of the rulers in health care leads to lists of patients waiting for treatment, although people pay their insurances, Mikov recalled.
The leader of the Socialists defined as a reform the achievements in terms of the economy under the BSP-mandated government, which ensured 1.7% growth in a complex political environment. At the same time, he asked why 14 social rights of citizens were frozen and why the 10 percent tax relief for people with minimum incomes was not restored, when the rulers boasted that they had increased the collection in the budget. Mikov was adamant that a true reform should be linked to economic growth and income growth.
“What the cabinet is doing is simply changing parameters in the current situation. Whatever changes, there will come a time when someone will raise the question of making the retirement age 70 years old,” the chairman of the BSP also stated. He recalled that the budget of the “Oresharski” cabinet and the ideas for reform were very ambitious, but in view of the difficult political situation, no one allowed the prime minister and the government to implement the economic policy that would give new perspectives to the country.
The BSP is the only party to see growth in the polls
The leader of the Left noted that sociological studies are being selectively cited which show the BSP with a low percentage of trust. “Look at the ruling parties – in total they make 40%, and they want to make changes to the Constitution. The 10% result for the BSP is taken selectively because there are other opinion polls that show a different picture. For the last three months, only the BSP has seen growth, if you look at the overall picture of trust in the parties,” Mikov said.
Asked whether the BSP is preparing a vote of no confidence in the cabinet, Mihail Mikov explained that the socialists are carefully monitoring every sphere of the executive power and there are grounds for such, but at the moment there is no such decision by the political bodies of the party.
Mikov commented on the role of the DPS, who announced their intention to request a vote of no confidence in the Borisov cabinet for the health sector, in relation to the current administration. “Let’s not forget that the DPS also provides support to the administration. I just want it to be clear – the DPS also participates in the important votes. The latest example is the vote for the new debt in the amount of 16 billion. BGN”, added the leader of the Socialists.
When asked about the possible coalitions of the BSP with other parties for the upcoming local elections, Mikov stated that they will be based on policies and not on alliances with parties “that only pretend to be left-wing”. “ABV is just one of the parties with left-wing claims. But coalitions are possible in some places”, he still noted.
The vandal attack on the BSP headquarters is not the first
“The breaking of one of the windows of the BSP headquarters is not the first case of vandalism against us. There were those last year, when we were in power,” the party chairman recalled in a comment on the attack on Sunday, when an unknown man threw paving stones on the facade of the building at “Positano” 20. He also recalled that near the entrance to the headquarters of the party also has a monument that was painted some time ago and the court declared that it was an “expression of political ideas”.
“As long as the Bulgarian court speaks like this, including with regard to the monument to the Soviet Army, such things will happen,” declared Mikhail Mikov. He added that the Ministry of Internal Affairs should analyze the recording and say who is the person who committed this act of vandalism. “Politicians must accept the reaction of citizens calmly and answer why this is happening,” added the leader of the Socialists.
Asked about the incident with the properties of the mayor of Pazardjik Georgi Popov, Mikov said that he expects a reaction from the Association of Municipalities, of which the mayor of Pazardjik is the chairman. “Our municipal councilor Rumen Petkov has signaled at the local level. He raised these questions in the Municipal Council. Now I expect the NRA and the prosecutor’s office to do their job,” explained Mikov. He was adamant that inspections of all municipalities should not be done for demonstration purposes, but that this should be the daily work of the institutions that receive money for it, and the media should be the public corrective that encourages citizens in such situations to be much more socially active.
