through official sources. The main reason was the failure in the negotiations for the purchase of vaccines against the Covid-19 coronavirus, attributed in part to the diplomat’s decision to take a vacation in the delicate context of the pandemic.
In the race to vaccinate the world, China and Russia have been heading in recent months in international players of weight. Many countries bought doses of their vaccines and moved forward with their approval, even before the publication of crucial results from clinical trials.
In recent weeks, the Government carried out, through its diplomatic arms of the Foreign Ministry as well as the Ministry of Health, that drives Ginés González García, a series of negotiations with private companies, with the Russian government and with China, to obtain the first doses of the vaccines that would allow them to immunize the population. The agreement with the first country prospered, the second is on hold.
In the case of China, the process was interrupted, in part, as a result of Kreckler’s decision to take a break in full negotiations, which fell badly at the top of the Government. The ambassador’s displacement measure was taken in recent days and will be made effective through a decree to be published.
In August, as reported THE NATION, Argentina had authorized phase 3 studies of the Chinese coronavirus vaccine to be carried out in the country. Sinopharm Group, that develops the laboratorio Elea Phoenix, after its approval by the National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat).
At that time, the president of Sinopharm Group, Liu Youg had stated that since June meetings and technical meetings have been held with members of the Ministry of Health and with the Argentine ambassador to China, Kreckler, in order to achieve “consensus for international collaboration”, and pointed out that in the negotiations also the Chinese Embassy in Argentina participated.
