The Government Council reduces the taxi fleet to 20% due to the Covid crisis
The Government Council has approved this Monday to reduce to 20% the minimum service that the taxi sector must provide, given the low demand derived from the covid-19 crisis.
This new minimum service percentage – which until now was set at 40% – has been agreed upon at the request of the taxi sector and involves the modification of the agreement of June 19, 2020, which approved the Plan of Exceptional Prevention Measures , Containment and Coordination to face the health crisis caused by Covid-19, after phase 3 of the Plan for the Transition towards a New Normal has passed.
This agreement had established, among the measures adopted, the possibility of reducing the minimum percentage of taxi service provision to 40%.
Specifically, during the state of alarm, the minimum percentage of taxi service had been set at 20%.
Currently, taxis had to cover that 40% of service, but the sector assures that the current demand continues to be reduced by 80% and has demanded the reduction of the service in the same proportion as during the state of alarm.
For this reason, and at the proposal of the Ministry of Mobility and Housing, it has been agreed to modify these percentages again and to set the reduction of the taxi service at 80% again, so that the sector, as a public transport service that it is, remains obliged to provide 20% of the service.
