The government acted for hours, approving aid to pubs, culture and tax breaks

The Central Crisis Staff, headed by Minister of the Interior Jan Hamáček (ČSSD), also met on Wednesday morning. After the meeting, he said that the priority now is to increase bed capacity, which is being worked on by firefighters and soldiers. For example, they select objects in which to place them. At the same time, they provide staff who will serve the beds.

“I believe that the measures will work, but it requires a joint effort. We have a huge test ahead of us,” the interior minister said. At the same time, he appealed to the Czechs to go to work and shopping if possible and otherwise be at home.

On Wednesday morning, the government nodded at the tax breaks for entrepreneurs, which are directly subject to emergency government regulations on coronavirus. “We automatically defer all payments of VAT, income tax and road tax due from today to the end of the year,” described the Minister of Finance Alena Schillerová (for YES). According to her own words, General Pardon Schiller will sign this on Wednesday.

“We will not formally require anything, it is enough for entrepreneurs to send an e-mail to the financial administration that this general pardon concerns them,” the minister claims. According to her, other reliefs announced in the spring also apply. On Friday, he wants to present a special compensatory bonus to the government for small entrepreneurs who do not have additional employees and the measures have affected them. Schiller wants compensation in the amount of 500 crowns per day. However, the condition will be that the business in question largely feeds on this business.

The Minister of Culture Lubomír Zaorálek (ČSSD) stated on Twitter at 9:30 that the cabinet approved support for cultural institutions. So far, 750 million crowns are to be distributed. Self-employed persons will receive 60 thousand crowns, companies will be entitled to reimbursement of costs up to 10 million crowns. Conditions are said to be much looser than in the past in a similar challenge. However, according to him, the support so far only concerns “live” art, for example, cinemas should not wait until next week.

The cabinet also approved support for other sectors affected by the pandemic and emergency measures. Before 10 o’clock, the Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (for YES) wrote it on twitter.

He later clarified that those who are compulsorily closed due to measures, such as restaurants or gyms, are entitled to 50% of the rent for three months. According to him, the program is set up so that everyone from the affected sectors who applies for it will get the money.

At an extraordinary meeting, the government discussed, among other things, the National Recovery Plan and the use of REACT-EU funds, ie money from the European Union to be used for the economic and social recovery of the EU after the coronavirus pandemic. The meeting started at 7 am in the form of a video conference.

“The government is also dealing with subsidy programs to support those segments of society that are most affected by the announced anti-epidemic measures,” the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic said on twitter this morning. On the other hand, nursing for the self-employed has not been resolved, the cabinet wants to discuss it only on Friday.

The agenda also included the mandate of Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (YES) for the European Council summit to be held in Brussels on 15 and 16 October. Babiš should traditionally represent the Czech Republic there.
