The government abolishes the obligation to use masks in closed public spaces

She emphasized that the better epidemic situation gave a chance to move from the obligation to use masks (which she described as “the most characteristic phenomenon of the coronavirus era”) to “recommendation to” wear them “in closed and crowded internal spaces”.

Combat epidemic

Still at the turn of March and April Estonia had one of the highest infection incidence rates coronavirus in Europe and in the world in relation to the size of the population, and the prime minister announced the extension of the restrictions for the holiday period, if residents do not comply more with sanitary rules.

In Estonia, the obligation to use masks in internal public spaces (e.g. shops, public transport, churches or cultural facilities and educational institutions) was introduced in the autumn of last year.

On Tuesday, the Estonian government led by Kaja Kallas, the leader of the liberal party, also decided not to extend the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages at night (it was in force until the end of May).

Currently, in 1.3 million Estonia, more than 470,000 people have been vaccinated with at least one dose, according to the national health authorities. people (over 35% of the population). Two doses of the preparation against COVID received over 233 thousand. people.
