The gothic horror of Nosferatu returns in Robert Eggers’ new film – 2024-10-06 04:57:13

We’ve known for about a year now that director Robert Eggers is working on a new adaptation of the story of Count Dracula.

His upcoming Nosferatu is the third installment since the release of German director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau’s 1922 Nosferatu, followed by Werner Herzog’s 1979 Nosferatu.

The main roles in the new horror remake are entrusted to Bill Skarsgård and Lily-Rose Depp. The actor last seen in The Raven will now play Count Dracula, while The Idol actress will be Ellen Hutter, a haunted woman with whom Count Orlok/Dracula is in love.

Nicholas Holt plays her husband Thomas Hutter, who fights to save her.

Nosferatu is directed and written by Robert Eggers. The official synopsis of the film tells us that we can expect a gothic story in which the main characters are a possessed woman and the terrifying vampire who falls in love with her and causes unspeakable horror.

In addition to Bill Skarsgard and Lily-Rose Depp, the cast also includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corinne, Ralph Ineson, Simon McBurney and Willem Dafoe.

However, before these names finally became clear, Anya Taylor-Joy was expected to play the female lead.

She was originally cast as Ellen Hutter after working alongside director Robert Eggers in two of his most popular films, The Witch and The Viking. The actress eventually left the project due to scheduling conflicts.

Besides her, another actor was also hired for the role of Thomas Hutter. It was Harry Styles, but then Nicholas Hoult was chosen.

The movie “Nosferatu” itself actually slowed down, as the reason for this was the pandemic. Work on the film had to await the completion of The Viking first, and the difficulties were clearly far from over.

Robert Eggers told IndieWire that the film “fell apart twice” before it went into production. Fortunately, everything ended well and we will soon be able to see it on the big screen. Until then, we brace ourselves with the official trailer that just dropped.

“Nosferatu” is expected in cinemas in our country from January 3.
