Hollywood’s “biggest mobster” Paul Sorvino has died at the age of 83. The sad news of the death of the actor, who recreated dozens of images on the big and small screen, was announced by his wife Dee Dee Sorvino on Instagram.
“I am completely devastated. The love of my life and the most wonderful man in the world is gone. My heart is broken,” she wrote.
Paul Anthony Sorvino was born on April 13, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. His father was an immigrant from Italy, and little Paul dreamed of becoming an opera singer. He graduated from the American Academy of Music and Drama in New York and made his Broadway debut in 1964.
Sorvino has appeared in over 50 films, but his most famous role is that of crime boss Pauly Cicero in the 1990 crime classic Goodfellas. The 83-year-old actor passed away just two months after his co-star from Martin Scorsese’s masterpiece, Ray Liotta, left this world.
The actor also partnered with Tom Cruise in the film adaptation of John Grisham’s book – “The Firm”. For his portrayal of Henry Kissinger in Nixon, Sorvino was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Paul Sorvino has three children, Michael, Amanda and Oscar winner Mira Sorvino, as well as five grandchildren.
“My father, the great Paul Sorvino has passed away. My heart is broken – a life of love, joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. Sending you love in the stars, Dad, as you rise.” , the actress wrote on Twitter.
The actor suffered from severe asthma, and because of his battle with the disease he founded a foundation and wrote the book, which became a bestseller “How to become an ex-asthmatic”.
