While chasing a lucrative appointment, young German banker Oliver causes an accident that throws him out of his previous life and into a wheelchair. In the rehabilitation clinic, he meets Laura, who lives in the handicapped flat share called “Die Goldfische”. Since Oliver wants to save his cash hidden in a Zurich safe deposit box from the Swiss tax authorities, he organizes a trip to Switzerland for the “Goldfisch-WG” in order to then bring his money back across the border, well hidden, in a van for the disabled.
Everything turns out differently – in the style of a slapstick comedy, the film tells the turbulence between people with completely different life goals and completely different everyday strategies. “The Goldfish” is a hitherto underestimated film about the power of being different. And as the protagonist Oliver had to experience, life usually turns out differently than planned.
