At Rathausgasse 9, the “Golden Unicorn” is one of the best cocktail bars in the country. Just recently, the well-known Falstsaff Magazine awarded 89 points for the famous creations of local boss Matthias Jantsch. No less exciting is the history of the restaurant, which already indulged itself in 1771 with the “Gasthaus zum Goldene Einhorn” of the inn. We stopped for a cocktail.
Small, tasteful and harmonious down to the last tile – that is the GOLDEN UNICORN, which has been offering cocktail delights for several years in the “other” old town – namely on the east side of the main square. The man behind the famous creations: the veteran gastro from Linz Matthew Jantschwho, as managing director of the legendary clubs SHINE BAR and VANILLI, was already able to gather a large number of disciples behind him.

Jantsch has finally arrived with the GOLDEN UNICORN, he has put his personal stamp on the restaurant. It is only open three days a week (Thursday to Saturday from 6pm), which adds to the 70 square meter club’s perceived exclusivity. But what does exclusive mean here: Anyone who loves fabulous cocktails with the best ingredients is welcome. And no: Cucumber doesn’t have to be in the gin and tonic, Monsieur Jantsch will be happy to advise you on site. Rolling Pin magazine included the golden unicorn in its list of Austria’s 50 best bars for the first time this year, and the recently won 89 Falstaff points taste extra – just like the house cocktail “Goldenes Einhorn” that we tried. How does it affect? Come in and find out!
