Despite the harrowing beginnings, the Golden Swan series is a huge success. What initially the viewers reproached the creators is quietly changing to their satisfaction. In the second series, there will be shots from exteriors, themes of the Second World War, although the first series did not reflect them too much, a wave of fear will rise, the stories will be grittier, rawer and the protagonists braver. What can viewers look forward to?
Slovak sister
The creators were inspired by the Spanish Las chicas del cable, translated as The Girls on the Wire, which in five series tells the story of four women in the national telephone company who live in Madrid in the 1920s. Even in Slovakia, the Zlatá labuť has its sister, Dunaj, at your service, and Zdena Studénková, Tomáš Maštalíř, Kristína Svarinská or Marek Rozkoš played the main roles.
The audience saw the perpetrator of the rape
The pianist Marta, played by Kamila Trnková, died right in the first part of the second series. The actress is not leaving at her own request, although she would have reasons to do so – with her partner Adam Ernest, whom the audience remembers from Cuckoos, they are expecting their second child.
It was Marta who was raped at the beginning of the series, which started the whole plot. Creative producer Klára Follová was surprised how quickly the audience realized that it was director Bouchner. “I read discussions on networks. I see them as a unique and authentic way to get feedback from the audience. For example, the moment when the audience saw the perpetrator of the rape before I thought it would happen was instructive for me. It is very useful to see what details the audience notices. In the framework of authentic periodism, we must not underestimate anything. In the first series, we allowed ourselves to move to more modern music as part of the plot musical performance, and the audience did not accept this artistic license.” he says.
Classmates from DAMU
Kamila Trnková and Adam Vacula share one more common secret – they are classmates from DAMU, where they joined as seniors. They also studied with Beáta Kaňoková. Their year is specific in that there were not only people after high school. Trnková herself had a break for three years before continuing her studies.
There may not be a happy ending
From the beginning, it seems that the central couple are Petr Kučera and Bára Veselá, who received a hard lesson from the Gestapo at the end of the first series. Petr had to marry Markéta, so their love didn’t get a chance again. Her representative Marta Dancingerová herself says that she does not yet know if Bára and Petr will have a happy ending. However, those who would like help can look to their neighbors. Serial Danube, at your service it already has three rows.
Why isn’t Veronika Arichteva playing there?
From the beginning, there has been talk about why Veronika Arichteva, the wife of director Biser Arichteva, is not starring in the period series. They already filmed one such series together – in the First Republic she shone as Magdalena, and that’s how it would be offered. In the end, however, she did not appear in any of the episodes. It was rumored that it was due to plans for a second child and the renovation of the house outside Prague, which gave the couple a lot of work.
On the contrary, Veronika Beskydiarová aka Besky should appear in the second row. The winner of the Masterchef cooking competition is dating Adam Vacula, who revealed that viewers can look forward to it. It is not certain who he will play there. We’ll see if it’s a short-term role or if he gets more space.
There were too many studios in the first place
First of all, viewers noticed that the series was mostly filmed only in studios. They are built in Prague’s Kbely and it is said that the actors have to pay such attention to the period costumes that the drivers even drive them between the individual locations. In the second row, the Golden Swan will offer more exteriors.
Were there any errors?
Lukáš Mašek orders carpaccio in a restaurant in one of the scenes. The truth is that it wasn’t invented until after the war in Italy – sometimes the 1950s to 1960s are given. But the entire first series deals with the period when the world conflict is just beginning, so it is definitely not over yet.
An attentive viewer also noticed a mistake in Colonel Gruber in the third episode: “SS Colonel Gruber (Jaroslav Plesl) has the collar designation “Standartenführer” but the epaulettes of a major (Sturmbannführer). He also lacks the SD marking on his uniform (as the “Commander of Prague” was probably a member of the SD, otherwise he would not have been subordinate to the Gestapo),” writes viewer Albi on ČSFD.
