It was a time when its population fluctuated between 6,000 and 8,000 inhabitants. But the parties she organized could attract so many people. In the 1960s and 1970s, Lavaur, in the Tarn, welcomed all the gratin of the French variety.

Every year, at the end of August – beginning of September, the festival committee organized the general celebrations. A funfair with a grand gala. And gold platter. To give an idea of the parade of stars that irrigated the town at the end of each summer holiday period, the name of Francis Cabrel only appeared in sixth position on the gala poster in 1979.

Francis Cabrel stuck behind Dalida and Pierre Perret

Of course, the singer of Little Marie had only released one album at the time, but I love her to death, from the second, was already sweeping the airwaves. If he was not put forward, it is quite simply that there were beautiful people in front of him. First of all Dalidamegastar turned disco star with Monday, Tuesday… Let me dance, released the same year. She was then preparing to leave for the United States, boasting the posters of Lavaur at the time. Which is not true, since she played in Lebanon in stride. But she had indeed toured in 1979 around the world, from America to Asia via Africa.

Behind her there was Pierre Perret, who had accumulated success at the time. Her Zizi was four years old, Lily two, and he had just come out Mon pt’it loup. let’s add Mary Miriamwinner of Eurovision 1977, Patrick Sebastian, already singer and TV host and fiancé of the previous one, and Hervé Villardwho was going to the Olympia several times at the end of the year and we understand then the importance of the Lavaur celebrations.

This attraction would be due to the turner John Renzulli, which had its entrances with the Parisian stars. But also, of course, to the work of the festival committee which for each edition snatched big names to offer during an entire afternoon under the great halls of the city.

Brel and Trénet also enchanted Lavaur

From the beginning of the 1960s, the sauce had taken hold, with nothing less than the great Jacques Brel at the microphone in front of 2,500 people in the wake ofIsabelle Aubret in 1962. And Louis Mariano (with Annie Cordy) the year after. Then Marcel Amont et Enrico Macias in 1964…

The list of stars that followed is almost endless, from Charles Trenet, Michael Fugain et Joe Dassin (only in 1968!) to Sylvie Vartan et AdamoPassing by Michel Sardou, Antoine, Richard AnthonyJulien Clerc…

In 1974, Lavaur brought Claude Francois. But it’s Mike Brant which unleashes passions. This is his last concert.

A tradition not quite lost

Today, parties no longer attract such big names. But the city still knows how to bring in legends from time to time. Thus, the mythical group At the Ladies’ Happiness (Oh girls) ended his career at Lavaur. It was June 10, 2023 at the Rock’&’Cars festival. An edition in which other rock cadors participated, the Little Bob Blues Bastards and the cult Dr Feelgood.
