Gian Piero Gasperini was the great favorite: he won in 2020 thanks to the results of the previous season, the one that brought his team to the Champions League for the first time, and he can do it today, showing off the best year of his career. Another third place and a quarter-final Champions League are more than valid arguments, even if the competition also had several arrows in their bow: first of all Pioli, leader of a Milan back to high levels, secondly Simone Inzaghi, who in the last championship he touched the Scudetto with Lazio, and Conte, who, however, is achieving the best results with Inter this season.
Atalanta against the classic big players, in a race that, in history, has seen various intrusions from the small ones, well before Gasp’s affirmation a year ago (when he excelled with 22 votes out of 49 overall, ahead of Mihajlovic, at 13): in the past, among others, Guidolin and Spalletti with Udinese, Allegri with Cagliari, Del Neri with Chievo and Cavasin with Lecce have won , who had certainly not reached the levels of the Nerazzurri today. The last decade has been characterized by the triumphs of the coaches of the multi-championship Juventus: the only ones to interrupt the hegemony were Sarri with Napoli 2015/16 and, in fact, Gasperini with Atalanta 2018/19.
Gasperini thus achieves a consecutive double that has in the past characterized only the great coaches: in history (the award has existed since 1993/94 and until 2005/06 it was also formally open to Serie B) only Lippi, Ancelotti, Prandelli, Conte (tris) and Allegri. In general, Lippi, Prandelli, Ancelotti and Zaccheroni centered two overall statements, while later there are Conte and Capello at 3 and Allegri, leader at 4.
