Unexpected, but also expected. Even so, one could mark Tuesday’s decision of the Executive Committee of the Slovak Football Association, which removed Štefan Tarkovič from the position of head coach of the national team.

The Tarkovich who had it with the future of the national team after the unsuccessful qualification of the World Championships in Qatar in 2022.
In December last year, the union’s representatives approached Vladimír Weiss Sr.’s national team with an offer to lead.
He did not come to an agreement with SFZ also because he had a valid contract with Slovan until June 30, 2022. And also because the leadership of the Slovak champion vehemently rejected the opportunity to lead the club and the national team at the same time.

After half a year and Tarkovič’s final dismissal, the situation is similar.
It can be assumed that the association did not give up the opportunity to lure the only coach in the era of Slovakia’s independence, which brought the national team to the final tournament of the World Cup, back to its services.
SFZ has not yet confirmed whether he will be interested in Weiss. “The final appointment of the Slovak national coach will be decided during the summer months,” he wrote in the opinion.
But it will be clearer about the future of coach Weiss in the coming days, maybe hours. The reason is simple – his contract in Slovan will end in three weeks.
A clear message from the Brick Field
Slovan also needs to solve the coach’s position. And much earlier than the Slovak Football Association.
“We have to resolve the head coach’s question by June 10, when the team leaves for training in Windischgarsten, Austria,” Ivan Kmotrík Jr., the club’s vice-president, told Pravda.

This is an important 10-day training for the club from Tehelné pole, during which the first preparatory duel will also take place. In it, on June 18, he will meet the participant of the Austrian Bundesliga SV Ried.
“We want the team to complete the training under the guidance of a coach who will start the new season,” added Kmotrík Jr.
For the Slovak champion, of course, a successful campaign in European cups is important. Slovan will start its journey in them on July 5 or 6 with the first match of the opening preliminary round of the Champions League.

According to Pravda, there is no possibility that Weiss will extend the contract with Slovan and subsequently become the coach of the Slovak national team. In this respect, nothing has changed in the fundamental position of The Godfather Jr.
“We reject the option for Weiss to sit on two chairs at the same time. It no longer exists almost anywhere in the world. He has to think about whether he wants to be a national team coach or stay in Slovan, “Kmotrík Jr. told Nový Čas in December. And this is how he allegedly perceives it after half a year.
There are two scenarios in the game
One thing can be written with certainty: the situation from the turn of the years will not be repeated with certainty and Tarkovič will not regain confidence. The others regarding the future coach of the national team are in the hands of the president of the association Ján Kováčik and the Executive Committee.
In any case, there may be only two scenarios in connection with a new pilot.
First: Vladimír Weiss Sr. will not sign an extension of the contract with Slovan and will be without a contract from 1 July. There will be nothing to stop the union from completing what it started last December.
