British MPs and their colleagues from all parties called on the government to support Ukraine’s demands for a just peace through diplomatic pressure and military assistance. writes The Guardian.
“Keir Starmer‘s government must strongly support Ukraine in the coming months as both sides seek to strengthen their positions ahead of negotiations. International support is critical to achieving a just peace that ensures Ukraine’s sovereignty and defeats Putin’s plans,” the cross-party parliamentary group on Ukraine said in a statement marking 1,000 days of struggle against large-scale Russian aggression.
Group leader, Labor Alex Sobel stressed that Britain should support Kyiv’s position on possible concessions, and not push President Zelensky to agree to Russian demands.
“No other country has the right to negotiate the seizure of Ukrainian territory,” he emphasized.
In turn, the co-chairman of the parliamentary group Sarah Green – a representative of the Liberal Democratic Party – added that the next year will be difficult for Ukraine, so the UK “must offer Kyiv strong and unwavering support.”
The announcement came at the same time that Mr. Jonathan Powellwho served as chief of staff to former Prime Minister Tony Blair and led the successful peace negotiations in Northern Ireland. In recent years, he has run his own charity, Inter Mediate, which works to negotiate peace agreements in many of the world’s conflict zones.
Last year, Powell said in Prospect magazine that world leaders should prepare for a negotiated resolution to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Vladimir Zelensky stated that he expects the war to end in 2025.
“For our part, we must do everything to ensure that this war ends next year, ends diplomatically,” he said.
He also played along with Trump, saying his election victory meant the war would “end sooner.”
