Amer Salmeen Al-Marri, an Emirati writer, director and producer, returns again in his new work, “The Gnome of the Billionaire”, to present a different cinematic entertainment experience, and a group of Emirati actors participate in the tournament.
Al-Marri confirmed, in an exclusive interview with “Zahrat Al-Khaleej”, that the film is a unique cinematic experience, encapsulated in a story that combines drama and action, and was filmed between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al-Khaimah. Chases and dangerous action scenes are in a global format, and I supervised the execution of the action and fighting scenes myself, and the actors themselves performed them without a doubler.
* First of all, we congratulate you on your new movie, “The Gnome of the Billionaire.” Tell us a little about it!
– This film is a great challenge for us as a team with a youthful family entertainment cinematic experience and an Emirati production par excellence. Because it is a completely different experience as a screenwriter, director and producer of the work, which put me in a great responsibility that I delved into the world of action and thriller films. The film includes two songs related to the story of the work, and this is also an achievement. I also tried hard to change the style of the Emirati artist and Emirati films with this film, because the goal was to change the identity of the Emirati hero. This is what I wanted to set and distinguish it from others, because I want the artist to be an actor in action, comedic, chase and drama films, so we changed our style in this film, and I also had many heroes who appear in cinematic films for the first time, and these are all challenges for us.
* Being the writer, director and producer… did you encounter difficulties?
– Yes, I faced great and many difficulties, because this film put me to work in all its sections, because I worked in writing, directing, songs and action, and the quality of the actors and their training as well, and this film we are proud of, because it is an entertainment film for the audience and not only for profit, or like other directed films. For a certain segment of the audience, it is an entertaining Emirati film from which we send several messages to most groups.
What advice would you give to new film-goers?
– This generation must certainly have a great passion and love for acting, and if it does not have this passion, it will not be able to give much or present anything to the public. Not only martyrdom or fame, because cinematic work is very difficult, as it is considered the second and most difficult after working in mines, for example.
In conclusion, I would like to thank Abu Dhabi Film Commission, which provided the necessary technical and photographic facilities, and provided services and filming locations in “Kizad” in Abu Dhabi, which contributed to the success of the work and the implementation of a film of a high artistic and technical level.
