/ world today news/ The gloomy demographic statistics from Bulgaria and the complicated situation in the economy became the reason for UN experts to predict that by 2050 the population of the Balkan country will decrease by 27.7%, or by nearly two million people, writes “Rossiyskaya justice”.
Thus, by the middle of the century, Bulgarian citizens will be around three and a half million.
Research shows that the country’s population is aging rapidly. People aged between 15 and 59 represent 59%, and those over 60 – 26.9%. Young people under the age of 14 are only 14.1% of citizens in Bulgaria. But they live significantly worse than their peers in the West, and the country lacks a long-term economic strategy, the international organization’s report said. This leads to a mass emigration of the population of working age abroad, the editors note.
