KONTAN.CO.ID – GENEVA. The global death toll from Covid-19 could double to 2 million before the vaccine is widely used. This was stated by Mike Ryan, head of the World Health Organization (WHO) emergency program. He also said the death rate could be even higher without concerted action to curb the pandemic.
“Unless we do everything, (2 million deaths) … not only imaginable, but unfortunately very likely,” said Ryan, in a briefing on Friday (9/25/2020).
Since the corona virus was discovered in China late last year, the death toll from this virulent virus has approached 1 million.
Ryan said young people were not to be blamed for the recent increase in infections despite concerns that they were driving its spread after restrictions and locks were relaxed around the world.

“I really hope we don’t interfere: it’s all because of his youth. The last thing a young person needs is an old man who is babbling and wagging his fingers, ”Ryan said.
Instead, indoor gatherings of people of all ages are driving the spread of the epidemic.
Program COVAX
Currently, WHO is continuing talks with China about possible involvement in the COVAX financing scheme, which is designed to ensure prompt and fair access to the Covid-19 vaccine globally, a week after the deadline for delivery has passed.
