ANGEL GUARD: The door hung in a wire, while the glass slipped out and shattered on the asphalt in front of Wenche Weyer and her friend Eli Kirkhus. Photo: Private

Wenche Weyer (68) and Eli Kirkhus (65) had an angel guard when a door fell over a balcony in Haugesund on Monday afternoon.

Published:

The friends were on their way back from a day trip on the island of Røvær outside Haugesund, when the incredible thing happened.

– We walked on the sidewalk and talked about everything and nothing. Then Eli says: “oh, can we stop a little, I have so much pain in my back”, says Wenche Weyer.

Then it said bang.

– The glass exploded in front of us, says her friend Eli Kirkus.

A few meters above them, the frame of a glass door balanced in a wire. The asphalt in front of them was covered with shards of glass.

– It was quite shocking. It was a quiet and calm afternoon, so you do not exactly expect something like that to happen. How it has managed to get across the porch, I have no idea, says Weyer.

– Thank god I got a sore back

Weyer and Kirkhus agree that they have had angel guards.

– Thank God I got a back pain, says Kirkhus.

– That was exactly the time we needed, the friend says.

Trembling over what had happened, the two women went home before the police arrived at the scene.

– I’m doing just fine now. Everything you have to experience, Kirkhus laughs.

Police: – Could have quickly become very serious

The police reported the incident on Twitter after they received a phone call from Weyer at 16.45.

– It was a special event, says operations manager Brit Randulf.

The door fell from an attic apartment, and ended up over the roof of the neighboring building before it slipped down and got caught in the wire.

Police have spoken to the occupant of the apartment.

– The person in question explained that a person was working to repair the door, and that the wind in that connection grabbed it, says operations manager Brit Randulf in the South-West police district.

– This could have quickly become very serious, so we are very happy that it went as it did.

The police have not opened a case on the incident.
