The director of the “Louis Turcanu” Children’s Hospital in Timisoara, doctor Ovidiu Adam, declared on Friday that the eight-year-old girl, suffering from cancer, who was transferred from Iasi to start the treatment, on December 12, has little chance of survival.
According to the doctors, the disease has recurred, and the girl needs chemotherapy sessions, which will be held in Iasi, after the parents requested the transfer of the child.
“The girl is an outdated case and her parents asked her to go to Iasi for treatment. Her health is extremely serious, she is a big tumor, with multiple lung metastases. An outdated case means that not much can be done. “Survival rates are low, they exist, only they require intensive chemotherapy and, in general, at recurrence the body no longer responds to chemotherapy as it does to the first tumor,” said doctor Ovidiu Adam.
According to the director of the Children’s Hospital in Timisoara, the girl underwent surgery twice in Iasi and underwent a round of chemotherapy, until her parents refused treatment.
“The girl was treated in Iasi, she was operated on once, her tumor was removed from her kidneys and partially her kidney, during the second operation her kidney was removed completely, when the disease recurred a second time, after which “The parents refused to treat her. She also underwent a chemotherapy tour. The girl was treated in Iasi until her parents refused the treatment. Unfortunately, there is no court decision that would deprive her of her parental rights.” doctor Ovidiu Adam.
The director of the “Louis Turcanu” Children’s Hospital stated that the bone marrow transplant is excluded, given that the girl’s health condition is extremely serious. The child will be transported by ambulance to Iasi, to start the chemotherapy sessions, in the following days.
“There is no question of a bone marrow transplant in the condition in which the girl is now, with metastases everywhere, she has no indication in this regard. The next few days she will return to Iasi. The mother requested the transfer to Iasi for chemotherapy and “Today (Friday) we agreed to pay the rescue to go to Iasi. When there is a rescue available, how soon will he leave for Iasi to start chemotherapy”, explained Ovidiu Adam.
The eight-year-old girl from Iasi County arrived at hospital after more than five months since she was not seen by a doctor and did not receive treatment. In this case, the Department of Social Assistance and Child Protection Iasi requested that the family be obliged to take the child for treatment.
Petronella has been diagnosed with kidney cancer and has lung metastases. She has been operated on several times in recent years and, although she was scheduled for consultation and hospitalization at St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital in Iasi this summer, her parents refused treatment.
They said they no longer trusted doctors and did not want their daughter to receive medical care. The last time she was consulted by oncologists was in July, before being transferred to Timisoara on December 12.
