Gijón will host in 2022 the seventh edition of the ‘Seed Ecology Conference’ from International Society for Seed Science, an international scientific event co-organized by the Gijón Atlantic Botanical Garden and the Oviedo University. The congress will take place from September 6 to 9 at the Botanical Garden, will have 200 participants and will focus its work on the ecology of seeds, with special attention to their ecological functions in the different world ecosystems.
The latest edition of the ‘Seed Ecology Conference’ It took place in the German city of Regensburg, and previously hosted cities in Brazil, China, the United States, Australia and Greece. It will therefore be the first time that the event takes place in Spain. And this was precisely one of the objectives of the Scientific Director of the Atlantic Botanical Garden of Gijón, Borja Jiménez-Alfaro, when he took office in January 2021: involve the equipment in international networks and organize congresses and courses in collaboration with other equipment. “We walk along that path. Today in scientific activity in a Botanical Garden we have to work in networks. This is how science works and it is what we like to do”.
The organization of the congress in Gijón by the Botanical Garden and the University of Oviedo is part of the agreement between the two institutions for the promotion of scientific activity linked to this municipal facility.
