A huge expense for the prosecutor’s office. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow is to spend over PLN 101 million on the adaptation of an office building purchased five years ago at ul. Lubicz 25 – the reporter of RMF FM Krzysztof Zasada found out. Considering the fact that the purchase cost of the building is PLN 50 million, we are dealing with the most expensive seat of prosecutor’s offices in Poland.
The amounts are huge, and they result mainly from delays in investments. The former Nafta office building was purchased in spring 2018 for PLN 50 million. Since then, the workers have not even entered the building to adapt it to the needs of the prosecutor’s office.
The contract was not fulfilled by the company that was supposed to prepare the project. On the other hand, it took so long to obtain various approvals for construction works. This building is in the register of monuments, permits were issued, among others, by the conservator.
The investor assures that the contract for adaptation works will be signed at the end of this month. The contractor will have 16 months to complete the works.
Interestingly, last year, the prosecutor’s office had to reconstruct the building planned PLN 44 million. Including over PLN 100 million. Delays more than doubled costs. It is not only about construction and installation works, land development, but also equipment, design works, investor services and operating costs.
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow already announced that it would file two lawsuits against the company that failed to meet the deadlines in the reconstruction of the new seat of the Krakow prosecutor’s office.
The first is to concern the payment of contractual penalties. Secondly, the investor will demand compensation.
As the regional prosecutor’s office informed the RMF FM journalist, the main reason for the delays is the failure to deliver the adaptation works on time, but also the long process of obtaining various approvals, which has increased the prices of materials and construction works many times over.
Additionally Almost PLN 2,200,000 has already been spent on the management of the building, which is currently useless for the prosecutor’s office, for 5 years.
Investment experts interviewed by our reporter are surprised by the prosecutor’s idea to buy such a building. They note that for the same amount of adaptation of the building, you can build a substantial office building in an attractive part of Krakow.
