Vincent revealed in a press release that the menu would focus on a “modern twist on traditional Italian cuisine,” but noted that a few of their “family favorites” would also be available. In addition to signature Italian dishes, Da Mimmo offers brick oven pizzas, house-made mozzarella and pastries.

The Gigante brothers opened Da Mimmo as a tribute to their great-uncle, Dominic Rizzi, a former chef de cuisine at Casa Dante in Jersey City and Valley Regency in Montclair. He died in 2016 after a long battle with cancer.

After nine years, Fox has revived the popular reality series “Kitchen Nightmares.” The show sees Gordon Ramsay spend a week with a struggling restaurant in a bid to save the business before it’s too late. So, in the fourth episode of season 8, Gordon went to Dumont to help the Gigante brothers with Da Mimmo.

The multi-Michelin star chef heavily criticized the family restaurant, from the food to the management. Gordon did his best to reframe Vincent and Vito, who were supposed to help but never lifted a finger. The two rarely promoted Da Mimmo, which angered the “Hell’s Kitchen” host.

“Have some integrity,” he said before calling them “snowflakes.” Gordon then urged them to attract their TikTok audience to the restaurant, but they wouldn’t have it. Vincent and Vito basically agreed that they didn’t want to bring anything to the table, even though Da Mimmo was $500,000 in debt.

Eventually, the boys’ mother, Melissa, revealed that neither Vincent nor Vito followed Gordon’s request to promote the restaurant on social media. The duo wanted Antonio to take over their responsibilities, even though he was already overburdened running the restaurant.

In the end, Gordon completely transformed Da Mimmo – he reduced their menu to 13 dishes and replaced the graffiti-inspired interior with a rustic-modern look.

“It was definitely an overall learning experience.” From inside the kitchen, all the way to the living room, Antonio told News 12 New Jersey. “Aspects of how to treat customers properly, how to turn tables, how to get certain things out of the kitchen faster. It was simply an experience all around. »

Melissa added: “Now that the restaurant has a different atmosphere, look and menu, we have a lot of new faces coming in. Many positive vibrations come to us. We’re really excited because at first we didn’t really fit in with the community. Now we feel like we’re part of it. »
