Grzegorz Lot stressed that society should be aware of its impact on the shape of the energy sector, and also if a strategic reserve is maintained as a system security, such a point – in some form – it must appear on lips.
President Tauron participated in the Thursday session of the Energy Days conference in Katowice, dedicated to conventional energy and coal assets. When asked about medium-term investment guidance and the related support needs, he reminded that the company’s new strategy is to be presented at the end of the year.
Lot made an appeal in this context for the sustainability of the environment. – We can handle it, we know what to do. Customers are our navigator. We know where customers want to connect and what they want to do, he noted. He confirmed that the industry is aware of the challenges, including: that, for example, in 25 years on the market there will be twice as much energy distribution now.
“Biomass for the furniture industry”
He said, for example, that the heat sector must meet certain emission and efficiency limits. – You have to invest. Today there is no clear perfect technology, therefore you have to build hybrids, some gas, some biomass – today we already know that there is a law that says that it can be very difficult to use biomass for energy purposesbecause it will be for the furniture industry – he showed.

Tauron’s leader pointed out that this is an example of the danger we face Regulatory stability is particularly important. – If we know what principles we are working on, what are the rules of the game, we will play this game and make sure that customers have energy and that it is as green as possible , because this means ecology and a good price – he said.

– When it comes to investments, if I were to say what the energy mix will be in a particular year, we have none and none of us today have any idea what technologies will be launched in the coming years and how to finance it in different situations. From time to time there is a new technology, a change in society, a movement. If there is legislation that worries us, we must either change it or accept it, but these are natural things, said Lot.
“Energy must be free”
He confirmed that the well-known goal is 100 percent in 2050. green energy that “must be cheap”. – Without it, there is no way that people will do heat themselves with heat pumpsso that electric cars can run, so that the industry can be competitive, so that the heat we provide is socially acceptable – he said.
He emphasized that the choice of specific technologies and models will ultimately be evaluated by customers. At the same time, it is the responsibility of the industry, and especially decision-makers, to ensure that electricity is available to customers without interruption.
– On the one hand, there is a vision of how we can transform, develop, green, and provide electricity, on the other – if we know that we have a transformation, what is called to be there backup and you have to think about what is called a reserve element – said the head of Tauron.
“It is not necessary to fill every mine”
– For example, in the coal sector, not all mines need to be filled in, flooded, forgotten and deleted from the maps. Maybe we have to think in terms of a strategic reserve, maybe find other solutions and think about what could happen, he suggested.
– But as a society we must be ready to pay for it. Because if we keep such a reserve and are ready to launch such a mine if necessary, […] we cannot be surprised that an element appears in our accounts: a strategic reserve or a capacity market. We order electricity 24 hours a day and it is very useful to involve the public and make them aware that they have a definite influence on what it will look like – which Grzegorz Lot proved.
