Since midnight on Friday, all hell has broken loose on the Potomac River, in sight of the Lincoln Memorial and the Capitol, where the nation buries its heroes in rows under white crosses. A trio, more or less good Catholics with Irish roots and womanizers all of them, were deprived of their eternal rest. As if they hadn’t already been through enough in their lifetime.

Two months before Halloween, Jack (JFK), Bobby (RFK) and Teddy Kennedy were alarmed by the bad news from Phoenix, Arizona, and rose like a phoenix from the ashes to haunt the graves like avenging angels, sleepless and angry at their lost son and nephew. Bobby Jr. had sided with Donald Trump, and this original political sin of the enfant terrible had to be punished with the most serious earthly – and Irish – consequences: expulsion from the clan and banishment from “Camelot”, as Jackie Kennedy had mythically glorified the dynasty after the assassination of JFK.

It is tantamount to excommunication, with no chance of pardon – atonement, rosary and 100 Hail Marys were not enough. No more tennis and sailing in Hyannis Port, the family home on Cape Cod in Massachusetts; no more lobster, no more shrimp and no more champagne at the family table. The Kennedy brothers decreed: Bobby Jr., go and see Trump!
