HOUSTON – A A motorist who was trying to flee the scene of an accident he caused after running a red light in the north-west of the city on Thursday night crashed again in his attempt to escape and lost his life.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the first incident occurred at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Street and Beltway 8.
After that incident, the driver running through a red light fled the scene where a heavily damaged Toyota Tundra pickup was left after the hard impact. Fortunately, the driver of the Toyota Tundra survived the crash despite the truck overturning.
The first incident happened around 11pm. The driver who ran a red light was driving a Honda vehicle.
In his escape attempt, he drove his vehicle down Veterans Memorial Street at high speed until he reached West Mount Houston where he collided with a Ford F-150 truck.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with minor injuries while the driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motorist involved in the first accident saw the second accident and remained on the spot to speak with the investigators. The identity of the driver who caused the crashes has not been disclosed.
