We don’t like to let others look into our wallets. And certainly not on our payslip. Why do many Germans make such a secret of money matters?

We don’t like to talk about our income or bank statements. Neither with our family nor with friends, let alone with colleagues. Why is this taboo so firmly established and what does money actually stand for in our society?
