The German state of North Rhine-Westphalia has agreed to accept Covid-19 patients from Slovakia, who is currently battling the third wave of the pandemic, for treatment, Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korčok said on Twitter on Saturday.
A medical plane with patients from Slovakia is expected to arrive in Dortmund today.
“Slovakia thanks Germany and the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia for admitting Slovak coronavirus patients for urgent treatment in their hospitals,” Korčok wrote.
To help the Slovak healthcare system cope with the burden of the pandemic, both Germany and Poland have expressed readiness to admit patients who need artificial lung ventilation, reports the TASR news agency. The first patients from Slovakia were already transferred to Gorlice in southern Poland this week.
