Without blood donors, nothing works in primary care. Lifeblood is needed every day to be able to treat patients in therapy or in the emergency room. Up to three lives can be saved with one donation.

In Herten there is another possibility to donate blood this year. This is possible on Tuesday 13 December from 14:00 to 19:00 in the St. Elisabeth hospital (Im Schloßpark 12). In order to avoid unnecessary waiting times, the blood donation service of the German Red Cross (DRK) asks in advance www.blutspende.jetzt to book an appointment. Those who come to donate blood can park for free in the hospital area.

In North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland alone, up to 3,500 units of blood are needed per day. Therefore, the DRK would be delighted with men and women who have not yet donated blood. Attracting new donors is not an easy task. The association knows this from experience and therefore relies on the arguments of convinced blood donors. In other words, if you bring along someone trying to donate blood for the first time, you will receive a stylish umbrella.

Anyone wishing to donate blood must be at least 18 years old and in good health. Bring your ID with you to your blood donation appointment. Body temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood pigment levels are checked before donation. This is followed by tests for infectious diseases in the laboratory of the blood donation service. The actual blood donation takes five to ten minutes. Then lie down completely relaxed for another ten minutes.
