Frankfurt am Main/Berlin, 15. December 2020 – The countdown to the decision has started – and the dream of triumph in the national club competition “Stars des Sports” 2020 lives on for TSV Elleringhausen: The club from the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, which was awarded the “Big Star of Sports” in October at the state level was awarded in silver, competes for Hessen in the national finals and hopes there for the “Big Star of Sports” in gold.
The “Oscar of Popular Sports” and a check for 10,000 euros
The decision will be made on January 18, 2021 at DZ BANK in Berlin. In the impressive location right next to the Brandenburg Gate, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, together with the President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Alfons Hörmann, and the President of the Federal Association of German Volksbanks and Raiffeisenbanks (BVR), Marija Kolak, will win the announce the coveted award. A total of 17 nominated clubs are hoping for the “Oscar of popular sport” and a winner’s check for 10,000 euros.
TSV Elleringhausen is one of the finalists because the junior team came up with something very special for the 100th anniversary of the club with its “Fitness trail – join in, stay fit!” Campaign: The fitness trail they designed themselves enjoyed this difficult year numerous closed sports facilities are growing in popularity, so that the originally six fitness stations spread across the whole town have been gradually increased to 20 stations. “Everything should be made weatherproof for the coming spring and a large overview board with all stations should be created,” says CEO Sina Jost. “The stretching, strength or endurance exercises are explained in detail on signs, you can even watch image and instruction videos on your smartphone via QR codes and the entire route is also stored in ‘Komoot’. The great thing about the fitness trail is that everyone can take part – whether young or old, whether athletes or beginners, there is also something for the walker sport. ”
„A solution that is as obvious as it is clever“
The application TSV Elleringhausen went through the Waldecker Bank. “The idea with the fitness trail is simply great and was simply implemented by the junior team and the initiators,” says board member Karl Oppermann. “The coronavirus pandemic was and continues to be a major challenge for sports clubs, and for many athletes not doing sports together was very painful – the fitness trail was an obvious and clever solution that came with participating in the national finals of the ‘Stars des sport ‘was rightly recognized. We keep our fingers crossed for a top placement, of course. ”
A top-class jury of experts will decide whether TSV Elleringhausen will actually receive the “Big Star of Sports” in gold from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on January 18th. The three best-placed clubs among the 17 finalists will be awarded. With additional cash prizes at regional and state level, the winners of the “Stars of Sport” have already received several million euros in recognition and to expand their social commitment in recent years.
Since 2004, special commitment by sports clubs has been rewarded
Since 2004, the DOSB, together with the Volksbanken and Raiffeisenbanken, have been honoring extraordinary activities or offers from sports clubs and their special commitment and awarding the “Stars of Sports” in this context. Projects from areas such as education and qualification, voluntary work, health and prevention, equality, integration and inclusion or climate, nature or environmental protection are awarded annually.
