New York Notorious German impostor Anna Sorokin was released from custody pending deportation in New York. She is allowed to stay in her apartment and she must wear an ankle bracelet. However, the release does not change the American authorities’ intention to deport Sorokin.
German imposter Anna Sorokin (31) was released pending deportation to the United States. The 31-year-old was allowed to leave the institution on Friday evening (local time), the responsible authority said. NBC reported that she Sorokin paid $ 10,000 bail and was placed under house arrest in New York, asking her to wear an ankle bracelet. Sorokin, born near Moscow in 1991, moved to Germany with her parents as a teenager and then graduated from high school in Eschweiler near Aachen. She then moved to New York via London and Paris, where she posed as the heir to millions of people in Manhattan high society under the pseudonym Anna Delvey and – according to a 2019 court ruling – stole services for a worth over $ 200,000 (about 175,000 euros).
Sorokin was sentenced to four years in prison but was released in early 2021 for good behavior.
