The ongoing conflict in Ukraine for weeks has also been having serious repercussions on the automotive sector. Now there is one of the most important houses that has decided to stop its production in Russia.
Thinking that the ceasefire in Ukraine could come quickly still seems to be hard to believe. The troops led by Vladimir Putin, in fact, are not at the moment willing to stop striking, despite the fact that this way of acting is also having serious repercussions on the world economy. Among the countries that have been affected there is also Italy, where gas and petrol are continuing to record important increases, to the point of making it difficult to hypothesize when the picture could improve.
There is no shortage of companies that have taken a stand on this and that have changed their plans for the future. Among these there is also one of the most important car manufacturers, which boasts some factories in Russia. Volkswagen has in fact decided to close one of its most important centers, thus diverting production to other realities.
Volkswagen’s new plans for the future: historic decision
Volkswagen’s intention to close one of its factories in Russia was given by Autocar.co.uk magazine which cites the Reuters news agency as a source. The choice, according to what transpires, would have fallen on the Nizhny Novgorod plant, which is located about 400 kilometers from the capital Moscow.
It is one of the most important realities for the company, where it focuses on the production of one of the most important segments, SUVs, not only Volkswagen ones, but also Skoda. The results obtained so far had been more than positive, to the point of crossing the milestone of 750,000 Russian-made vehicles.
A move like this can therefore only have a heavy weight even on the budgets of the house.
It is important to point out, however, that, unlike what Renault did, Volkswagen does not want to completely abandon Russia. In fact, in Kaluga there is another plant, where 4,000 people work, which will continue to remain active. The machines that were present in the other facility will then be moved here.
